Chihiro is not at all happy that she has to move with her parents away from her friends and everything she has known. But on the way to their new house, Chihiro and her parents get lost and find a strange tunnel in the middle of a forest. Reluctantly, Chihiro follows her parents to the other side. A true wonderland opens up there. Idyllic landscapes, a picturesque village and seemingly endless amounts of delicious food. The only strange thing is that no one seems to be there … When the sun goes down and Chihiro's parents have suddenly turned into fat pigs, it becomes clear that not all is well here. Chihiro has ended up in the magical bathhouse of the witch Yubaba. Her only chance of getting out of there with her parents is to take a job in the rather strange house. Not an easy job, as the bathhouse is only available to a number of rather eccentric gods and a contract with Yubaba comes with more caveats than Chihiro was prepared for.
Spirited Away stands as a work of unparalleled genius. (Jason Solomons, Times)
