In the bustling district of Shibuya, Tokyo, Hirayama leads a solitary life as a public toilet cleaner, characterized by routine and quietness. Yet, amidst the monotony, unexpected encounters can disrupt the tranquility, forcing Hirayama to confront memories from his past that he had long suppressed. As he grapples with these unforeseen disruptions, Hirayama realizes the importance of cherishing the simple joys in life, even in the midst of routine, as they hold the true essence of happiness.
