We have a problem.

A mysterious force has knocked the moon out of its orbit, sending it on a collision course with Earth. There is not much time to prevent the impact and save life as we know it from extinction. Meanwhile, conspiracy theorist K.C. Houseman approaches ex-astronaut Brian Harper to warn him of the approaching disaster. Harper immediately recognises parallels to the experiences from his last space mission and feels confirmed: something is very wrong with the moon  – and that's apart from the fact that it threatens to destroy planat Earth.

When Jo Fowler and her NASA team can't get any further and it's already raining huge lunar chunks down on Earth, she unceremoniously brings Brian and K.C. on board. Together they put together the pieces of the puzzle surrounding the lunar mystery and set off on a daring mission into space to prevent the downfall of the world...

In this case, the bad moon does just enough damage to delight — the effects are unbelievable, of course, but undeniably impressive, holding up even at Imax scale — while pushing the plot to such extremes that we can’t take it seriously. You’d think we’d tire of Emmerich’s brand of disaster, but instead, it provides a strange kind of relief. (Variety)
