14. Juli 2020: The Favourite (OV)

In the early 18th century, England is under the governance of Queen Anne. She has a frail body and suffers from bad health issues. Even though England is at war with France, she prefers light-hearted activities such as racing ducks and playing with rabbits rather than governing the country.

The young, once noble Abigail Hill is left without a title and in a poor and hopeless situation after her father has gambled her away in a game. After the death of her father, she decides to go to the palace in search of an employment. Thanks to her cousin Sarah Churchill, who effectively rules over the country through her influence over the Queen, Abigail Hill is allowed to do the work of a lowest servant.

During her stay at the palace, Abigail discovers the intimate sexual relationship between her cousin Sarah and Queen Anne. She decides to gain the Queen’s trust herself in order to restore the power and influence she once possessed. Eventually, this leads to a war between the cousins which impacts not only their lives, but the entire kingdom.
