Pioneer. Genius. Rebel.

The year is 1893. The young and proud Marie Skłodowska is trying to obtain funding for her research, but is repeatedly rejected because of her gender. Fascinated by her and her research, the young Piere Curie wants to support her. Marie reluctantly accepts and shortly afterwards discovers the elements polonium and radium with his help. The publication on radioactivity revolutionised physics and chemistry and radium was soon used in a number of commercial products.

Now married, Pierre declined the Légion d'Honneur because Marie was not nominated. Pierre accepted the Nobel Prize for Physics alone in Stockholm. When he dies soon afterwards as a result of his research, Marie takes over his professorship at the Sorbonne. However, the press only reports on her Polish origins, her love affair and serious health problems due to the exposure to polonium. Marie continued to fight and in 1911 was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry for her work - but as a woman, she was not allowed to accept it publicly.

Rosamund Pike fiercely embraces the material and her character's complexities. (Udita Jhunjhunwala - Scroll.in)
