The galaxy is in revolt. Thousands of solar systems and planets under the leadership of the disloyal Jedi-Master Count Dooku (Christopher Lee) decided to get loose of the Galactic Republic. Without any army, the Jedi have few to put up against this menace. Peace and democracy are at stake. Padmé Amidala (Natalie Portman), meanwhile senator of the Republic, opposes against the formation of an army which should crush the dangerous rebellion - hardly to the displeasure of some of her few peaceful allies. After two attempts on Padmé's life, Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), obstinate and brave apprentice of Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor), is appointed to protect the senator. Secluded in a palace in the idyll of Naboo, a forbidden feeling arises between Padmé and Anakin - love. This deeply human passion causes bad trouble to the senator as well as to the young Jedi because such a feeling neither is due to the dignity of a high-ranking politician nor is it compatible to the vow of the Jedi-Order. Meanwhile Obi-Wan Kenobi is going to a distant, ocean-covered planet at the outer edge of the galaxy. There he wants to find out who leads the separatists and who arranged the attempts on Padmé. In the course of his investigations, Obi-Wan makes a horrible discovery: In a gigantic submarine factory, soldier clones are breeded which are vastly superior in battle force to the soldiers of the Galactic Republic. And then war breaks out - sooner than expected by the Jedi and the Republic. Obi-Wan, Anakin and Padmé are driven by the events to a distant rocky planet where the armies of the separatists are falling in. And soon the young heroes are fighting for their life in the middle of a bloody battle between renegades, Jedis and the nearly invincible soldier clones...
